Golf Leagues at Massanutten - 2009
A letter of welcome from Brett Mowbray
Dear Massanutten Golfer:
As the weather improves day by day, the 2009 golfing season is just around the corner. Whether watching the Masters on television or hitting the links for the first time, golf seems to be the buzz each spring. Massanutten Resort has something in mind for you, from playing a round of golf, to hitting a bucket of balls or trying the new Dead Solid Golf Simulator. This year promises to be another great year on the links at Massanutten Resort.
The Woodstone Meadows Golf Shop has now been relocated to its new home, off Silverstone Lane. This welcomed move for the golf department has allowed us to have the golf shop and the driving range at the same location. A Dead Solid Golf Simulator has been installed in the new golf shop allowing our customers the opportunity to use one of the hottest trends in golf. The golf simulator features realistic indoor golf through championship course play, driving range usage, video swing analysis and custom club fitting. Courses available include Pebble Beach Golf Links, Rancho La Quinta, Cog Hill, Harbor Town and many more. No matter if the weather outside is sunny, raining or snowing, it's always 70 degrees and sunny indoors at the new Massanutten Resort Dead Solid Golf Simulator! Golfing leagues will be formed for play on the golf simulator throughout the year. Check back for more information.
One other exciting change this year will involve the structure of our Demo Day Programs. In the past, we have had multiple Demo Days featuring club representatives from all the leading manufacturers. This year we look to improve this by offering two Demo Days per month from April through June. Each of these Demo Days will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will feature our PGA Trained Professionals. The 2009 Demo Day Programs will conclude on June 27th with our annual Massanutten Resort Demo Day featuring club representatives from Cobra, Callaway, Hippo, Ping, Titleist and Taylor Made.
This year, our learning programs will be organized into three different divisions. We will be offering a men's league, a ladies league and a junior program. As you have noticed, the ladies league is no longer divided into a playing and learning division. We have combined these to try and encourage more participation within our ladies program. Our ultimate goal for all of our programs is to get more participation in the Massanutten Resort Club Championship to be held August 8th and 9th.
Men's League will begin May 6th at 4:00 p.m. The participation level has stayed consistent for the last few seasons. This year we are looking to take the league to the next level by hopefully adding several new faces to our loyal group of club members. September 16th will mark the start of our match play tournament. Match play will be divided into an A & B division. The cost of league participation this year will be $30.00.
Ladies League will begin the season by offering clinics emphasizing putting, chipping and full swing with irons and woods. The first clinic will be held Thursday, April 2nd at 6 p.m. at the Woodstone Meadows G.C. The clinics will conclude on April 23rd with league play beginning the following week. The cost of Ladies League will be $40.00. The fee will include the refresher clinics as well as league play. Tee times will be blocked off each Thursday and participants will need to sign-up in advance. The $40.00 will not include cart fees.
Our Junior Golf Program is now a First Tee affiliate. First Tee is a national organization promoting golf and life-skills education to juniors.
We will be offering three junior programs this summer. The 10-week Summer Program will be held on Saturdays for local youths. The age groups for the summer program are 5-8, 9-13 and 14-17, with the curriculum changing throughout the series. The cost of this program will be $100, half of which will be returned to the junior in golf merchandise.
Full Swing Junior Clinics will be held at 7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 1st. This program will be offered to children ages 5-17. The program will cover the basics of golf; including rules, etiquette, chipping, putting, iron and wood play. The cost of this program will be $15 per session.
Two-day junior camps will be added to Massanutten's Junior Golf Program for this summer. The camps will include two, 2-hour sessions. The two-day camps are designed to add some flexibility for our guest's schedules. Children ages 5-17 are eligible. Each child will attend one Class A and one Class B session at during the week. Class A camps will be held Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Class B be will be Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. The price for the two day camps will be $50.00.
