Massanutten Gives Back

Massanutten is committed to building stronger communities in the places where we live, work, and play —we regularly volunteer, provide expertise, and donate to organizations to live out one of our core values, which is taking care of each other and the community.

Partnership with United Way

Massanutten is proud to partner with United Way of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County (UWHR) for the 2023 United Way Day of Action event, taking place on June 2, 2023.

Massanutten has been given the opportunity to partner with local non-profit organizations to complete the below projects:

Harrisonburg Frist Step - Painting & Landscaping Project
First Step is a nonprofit that empowers survivors of domestic violence by providing a variety of free and confidential services. They have asked us to partner with them, again this year, to give their front entrance a makeover. This project will consist of prepping and painting their front porch and some light weeding and landscaping work.

Roberta Webb Early Education Center - Playground Upgrades
Roberta Webb Early Education Center strives to provide local children with rich educational experiences that prepare them for
a lifetime of learning. We have been invited to assist in giving their outdoor play area some upgrades.

Elkton Area United Services - Moving Forward
Elkton Area United Services needs our help with a variety of tasks including moving, sorting and processing donated items for
resale at their store, moving small items from one location to another and assisting at their Food Pantry.

The Arc of Harrisonburg - Start of Summer Celebration
The Arc, an organization that promotes and protects the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities has asked us to join them, at the Blakey Farm in McGaheysville, for their Start of Summer Celebration. Volunteers will assist with event set-up and spend the day interacting and assisting participants with planned games and activities.

Community Clean-up

For years, Massanutten has encouraged all employees to participate in two programs that help to improve the appearance of our property, public roadways, and roadside gardens while reducing the cost of litter removal for the county.

Adopt-a-Highway Program
We care about our county and the way it looks, which is why Massanutten started participating in the national Adopt-a-highway program in July of 2016, ‘adopting’:

  • Route 644 (Resort Drive) from Route 602 (East Point Rd) to Route 646 (Bloomer Springs Road) for a total of 3.6 miles.
  • Additional Route:  Route 646 (Bloomer Springs Road) from Route 644 (Resort Drive) to Route 33 for 1.70 miles for a total adoption of 5.3 miles.

Twice a year, we have an average of 28 employees volunteer to keep these sections of highway free from litter, removing an average of 16 bags of trash per cleaning.

Resort-Wide Cleanup Days
Another core value of ours is Taking Care of our Property, which is why we regularly host Resort-Wide Cleanup Days. Through this initiative, our employee volunteers come together as one to make our resort clean and beautiful for all to enjoy, removing as many as 25 bags of trash in a single day!

Annual Festivals

Massanutten hosts 4 annual festivals with festival proceeds benefiting a local area non-profit. ValleyFest, held on Memorial Day Weekend, is the largest fundraiser for the local Rotary Clubs of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County. NEW! Rock the Ridge, held the first Saturday in June, benefits the Massanutten Technical Center Foundation. Summer Jam, held on July 3, benefits the RH-SPCA and Fall Festival, held every October, benefits the McGaheysville Fire & Rescue Squad. See All Festivals.
